Hello, I’m Ann, founder, maker and grower behind Purple Sage Soap Company.
Soap-making and gardening are the two great passions in my life, and Purple Sage was born from bringing them together. From my garden in the beautiful Scottish Borders, I grow many of the flowers, herbs, fruit, vegetables and wild botanicals that inspire and feature in my soaps and skincare. Each bar is handmade in small batches using plant-based ingredients, thoughtfully chosen botanicals and time-honoured techniques.
The result is skincare that helps to gently cleanse and care for your skin, while reflecting a slower, more sustainable way of making.

Our Ingredients:
Olive Oil - Known for its moisturising properties, olive oil is rich in antioxidants and vitamins, making it excellent for helping to hydrate and nourish the skin. It helps to maintain skin elasticity and can soothe dry, irritated skin.
Coconut Oil - Coconut oil is a versatile ingredient that is deeply moisturising and easily absorbed by the skin. It's rich in fatty acids, which help to nourish and protect the skin's barrier. Coconut oil also has antimicrobial properties, making it beneficial for combating acne and promoting clear, healthy skin.
Shea Butter - Shea butter is a luxurious moisturiser derived from the nuts of the shea tree. It's incredibly nourishing and is known for its ability to deeply hydrate and soften the skin. Shea butter is rich in vitamins and fatty acids, making it ideal for helping to soothe dry, sensitive skin and improve skin texture.

Natural clays - offer a multitude of benefits for skincare, including deep cleansing, gentle exfoliation, oil regulation, soothing inflammation, tightening pores, detoxifying the skin, improving circulation, and nourishing with essential minerals. Himalayan Pink Salt - is prized for its numerous skincare benefits, including exfoliation, detoxification, and mineral replenishment. Rich in essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium, it helps to gently slough away dead skin cells, revealing smoother, softer skin underneath. Its detoxifying properties draw out toxins and impurities from the skin, promoting a clearer complexion. Additionally, the minerals in Himalayan pink salt nourish and hydrate the skin, leaving it feeling refreshed and revitalised.
Pure Essential Oils - are concentrated extracts derived from plants, each offering unique benefits for skincare. Cold Process Soap Making:
- Preservation of Nutrients: Cold process soap making involves mixing oils and lye at low temperatures, which helps to preserve the natural properties and nutrients of the ingredients. This results in a gentle and nourishing soap that is beneficial for the skin. Using the direct heat method also helps with the preservation of essential oil benefits.
- Versatility: Cold process soap making allows for a wide range of creative possibilities. Different oils, butters, essential oils, and botanicals can be incorporated into the soap recipe to tailor the product to specific skin types or preferences.
- Control over Ingredients: With cold process soap making, we have full control over the ingredients used in the soap. This means we avoid harsh chemicals, artificial fragrances, synthetic additives, and pre-made bases commonly known as melt and pour, creating a more natural and skin-friendly product.
- Cure Time: Cold process soap requires a curing period of 4 - 8 weeks, during which excess moisture evaporates and the soap hardens, resulting in a longer-lasting bar. This curing process enhances the quality and longevity of the soap.

All of our products are cruelty-free and are never tested on animals. We focus on plant-based formulations, using thoughtfully chosen botanical ingredients inspired by gardens, wild plants and traditional soap-making practices.
Where appropriate, we may also use responsibly sourced bee by-products, such as honey or beeswax, chosen for their natural properties and their connection to regenerative growing and local ecosystems. These ingredients are used with care and intention, supporting ethical beekeeping and biodiversity rather than intensive animal agriculture.

New for 2026, Purple Sage Soap Company is building charitable giving directly into selected soap collections.
Rather than asking customers to add donations at checkout, a small fixed donation from every bar sold in these collections is donated by Purple Sage Soap Company Ltd to causes that reflect the purpose and story behind each range.
This approach allows us to keep our giving thoughtful, transparent and sustainable, while continuing to grow as a small, independent business.
